On August 8, 2023, the Mega Millions jackpot reached a new record of $1.602 BILLION, making it one of the biggest prizes ever in U.S. history!
The official jackpot size was not available until all final sales were recorded, as Lottery officials mentioned: “at this level, jackpots are hard to predict with complete accuracy.” They were right indeed, the jackpot was revised from $1.58 Billion to $1.602 Billion.
The lucky ticket that matched all the winning numbers was bought at a Publix grocery store in Neptune Beach. It was the only one, out of more than 7 million winning tickets, that matched all winning numbers 13, 19, 20, 32, 33 and the Mega Ball 14. Imagine checking Mega Millions results and finding out that all your numbers match!
There were also 7 tickets that won the second prize. Two of them had chosen the Megaplier option, which doubled their prize from $1 Million to $2 Million.
The Mega Millions winner, or winners, of that ticket have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim their prize in Tallahassee.
Gretchen Corbin, Georgia Lottery President and CEO declared: “We congratulate our newest jackpot winner, as well as the more than 43.7 million winners at all prize levels throughout this jackpot run, […] We also celebrate the funds generated for the many good causes supported by our participating lotteries.”
A little known fact is that more than $1 Billion in Mega Millions prizes have been awarded and more than $1 Billion have been generated for education since Florida joined Mega Millions in 2013.
